What are CAT4 levels?
CAT4 levels (X–G) are simply different test forms for different age bands. They do not describe your child’s ability level — they help the school choose the right version of the test.
Why parents get confused
- Different systems, same ages: UK Year ≠ US Grade ≠ IB year labels.
- Schools say “CAT4 level”, but parents search by year/grade.
- “Year” can mean different things across countries and schools.
How to avoid mistakes (simple)
- If you have a CAT4 report, use the level code shown there (X–G).
- If you don’t, pick your country/system + year/grade in the level finder above.
- If you’re unsure, choose the current school year and confirm using the typical age.
Once you know the level, open the matching level guide and download the free practice PDF for that exact level. Go to the level finder
